In the world of digital DJing, the only free DJ mix software that’s really available for download at no-cost and without any restrictions while being pretty decent is Mixxx, probably the only open-source (and if there are others, Mixxx is the leader aka most-downloaded) free DJ program on the market at this time of writing (January 2011).

Mixxx, free DJ Mix Software Screenshot

What is so special about this free DJ mix software besides its price (zero)?

Mixxx has always been available as a free DJ software download since its inception in 2001 and would you believe that this free DJ program started off as an open-source university project then a “serious” free DJ mix software project?

What role does the open-source nature of a free DJ mix software play?

Well for starters, Mixxx does not have any restrictions that will be found in a proprietary (an antonym of open-source) non-free DJ program.

For example my Traktor Scratch Pro DJ software download meant that I can only use DJ controllers approved by Native Instruments, the maker of the Traktor DJ program.

On the other hand on an open-source free DJ mix software like Mixxx, the number of DJ controllers that can be used to run the free DJ program is almost mind-boggling!

Is there a risk of using free DJ mix software?

The only concern is that when you’re relying on anything that’s open-source such as a free DJ software download, you’re on your own when something goes wrong. Mixxx has a community forum where users help each other out but let’s say that something major happens to your laptop as a result of the free DJ software download, you’re pretty much on your own and you cannot scream at anyone.

When I have issues with my Traktor Scratch Pro, you better believe that I jump on the phone and speak with someone at Native Instruments until they’re resolved. With Mixxx, you’re on your own.

Of course most of the times, a DJ program’s community tends to be more useful than the support staff of the DJ software maker whether it’s free or commercial. Why? Because actual users provide more insight as they know DJ programs more intimately.

Using Mixxx can be risky if you care about what people, especially DJs and the club community, thinks of you. Let’s not kid ourselves: this free DJ program can be perceived as a sign of frugality or lack of seriousness in one’s craft. I have seen DJs openly mocking a guy who was spinning at bar using Mixxx.

What’s the final verdict on a free DJ mix software download?

The best advice is always to put the DJ program to the test. Mixxx is free. It only took me two minutes to download and within a few more minutes, I was toying around with it.

I would advise that you do the same. Download the free DJ mix software and try it out for a couple of weeks before you use it professionally if you play at events or in nightclubs.

You also want to see if the DJ program is right for you because your tech-proficiency, DJ and musical style will strongly impact your experience with Mixxx.

In my case for instance, I will always evaluate Mixxx using Traktor Scratch Pro DJ system as the comparison because the latter is the DJ software I first used when I ventured into laptop DJing (at the time – 2002– it was called Final Scratch) and still use today.

Other DJs evaluating the free DJ mix software may have no laptop DJing background meaning that their evaluation will be very different to mine.

Simply download the free DJ mix software, try it out and let the results dictate your final decision.

As Gifts for DJs takes on the mammoth task of evaluating all of the DJ mixing software in the world, readers will of course wonder when or if ever we will be able to give a final verdict on the best computer DJ program ever.

If you’re an avid DJ gear researcher you may have come across, magazines, websites, blogs and other sources of content claiming to unveil to you the best DJ mixing software title on the planet so that you can make a better and informed decision…

Here is a hard cold truth especially for beginner DJs or vinyl and CD DJs searching for the best DJ mixing software for their digital laptop adventure: it’s IMPOSSIBLE to make a claim on the best computer DJ program on the planet and actually stand behind it with full assurance.

Why?

There are a few reasons why is quasi-impossible to figure out what the best DJ mixing software is:

1) “Best” is a subjective term. For instance what’s best for me is not what’s best for another DJ because as two different individuals we have different expectations in DJ mixing software.

In my case, a computer DJ program featuring four-channel is not such a big priority for me and thus could easily live with Traktor Scratch Duo (I own the Pro and have never used the four decks feature!) where for a DJ who is into heavy sampling would dismiss Traktor Duo DJ mixing software because of its lack of four-deck mixing feature.

2) At the end of the day, DJ mixing software makers keep a heavy tab on their competitors and find ways to quickly copy each others’ novel computer DJ program features.

As a quick example, the Serato DJ mixing software has had colour waveforms from the start if I am not mistaken. Only a couple of years later did the Traktor computer DJ program get the same treatment. On other hand Traktor had looping features and in Serato’s next DJ mixing software refresh, guess what feature was available?

3) There are just too many DJ mixing software on the market for anyone to keep up. From the open-source (Mixxx) to the proprietary, the choices run the gamut. And that’s without counting the different versions of the same computer DJ program or different titles of the same product line.

As a Traktor user, I must say that it did not get too long for me to get overwhelmed by the crazy offerings such as Traktor Duo, Traktor Pro, Traktor Scratch Duo, Traktor Scratch Pro (the one I use), Traktor LE, Traktor for the Kontrol S4 DJ controller, Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor DJ software and more!

Traktor Screenshot DJ Software

Traktor Screenshot DJ Vinyl Software

Traktor Kontrol S4 Screenshot

What’s the message exactly?

There are too many DJ mixing software titles (don’t even get me started on DJ controllers!) on the market and while it’s easy to figure out if they deliver on their marketing sales pitch, it’s really a hard task to pit them against each other especially with the constant computer DJ program updates and have a clear “Best of”. So don’t find yourself never settling on one type of software because you were never able to make up your mind.

If in 2011, you’re still wondering whether or not to buy DJ equipment online, I am afraid that you may urgently need to catch up with the times. And I mean that in the most polite way!

That said, I should probably make a confession: I never buy DJ equipment online but not for reasons that most readers will think about at first. I never buy DJ gear online for this simple reason: I am an instant-gratification-kind-a-person and when I want something, I want it there and then!

So for instance when I needed Traktor Scratch Pro, I know that I could have looked at places to buy DJ equipment online especially in the US since prices are cheaper than in Montreal, Canada and waited for a friend who was coming to town from South Beach, Miami to bring it with her. But… I wanted the Traktor DJ software right away and I simply took a quick fifteen minutes to Moog Audio, where I buy DJ equipment in Montreal and an hour later, I was in my home studio jamming away.

Now onto the question of whether or not to buy DJ equipment online. Internet shopping ESPECIALLY free shipping made DJs all over happy, happy campers.

MF Screenshot

(In the above screenshot example Musician’s Friend offers free shipping and no taxes in many states)

(“All orders over £50 are free of delivery charges.” says Decks.co.uk in the above screenshot example)

When you want to buy DJ equipment online, all these retailers know that you know how to use price comparison tools and that you know that there are many places to buy DJ gear online such as competitors’, classifieds sites such as Craigslist, auction sites such as eBay and heck even the manufacturers’ stores.

The endless choices make the marketplace very crowded hence very competitive meaning that retailers have to offer kick-butt prices and impeccable prices to those wanting to buy DJ equipment online because they know that negative word-of-mouth can travel very fast and can mean the difference between staying in business or not!

But is buying DJ gear online safe?

Come on now! If you only deal with reputable retailers, it’s more than safe and you can buy DJ equipment online without any fears. Do you really think that a company is going to jeopardize its million-dollar operation to con you of even $10 000 if you’re planning to buy an ultra-premium beginner DJ equipment set-up?

Personally, I am concerned about handing my credit card to these small restaurants that serve great food but seem to be run by questionable characters. There, I don’t even pay with my debit card but with cash! All this to say that it’s 2011 and you may buy DJ equipment online without any fears as long as you’re dealing with trustworthy businesses.

Without any arguments, the number one store where to buy DJ equipment in Montreal is without a doubt Moog Audio. I don’t even know if there’s another store that sells DJ gear in Montreal except maybe for Steve’s Music in the Old Port but I have never set foot there so have no idea what they offer.

Ever since moving in what I believe the most fun city in Canada in 2003, I headed straight to Moog Audio for my new DJ equipment and the professional, polite and above all friendly personnel at the store that was on Avenue des Pins and now on Saint-Laurent helped me get all the DJ gear I needed.

Moog Audio - The number in DJ Equipment in Montreal!

Buying DJ equipment in Montreal is expensive if you consider that New York City is only less than two hours by plane but by the time you have added the plane ticket price, the customs duties and the accommodation fees plus the time, you’re better off sticking to Moog (I only buy DJ gear in the US when I happen to be travelling there and when I stay long enough not to pay custom (import) duties).

The cool thing I really I like about Moog Audio is that it’s also one of the few places to rent DJ equipment in Montreal. This is very important to me because especially with new DJ gear, I like to try it out before I buy it and renting is the best option because for a week (my usual renting period because one day is not enough), I get to put the piece of DJ gear to the test. You have no idea, how many products I would have bought and regretted the decision later but was wise enough to rent them at Moog Audio!

The only problem is that besides Moog and Steve’s there are not many places to shop for DJ equipment in Montreal which for us DJs aka the consumers sucks because we cannot pit the stores against each other to get the best prices. That’s the price to pay when you live in a small city, I guess.

I should disclose that during the many years shopping for DJ equipment in Montreal, I have made friends with many of the staff at Moog Audio and will probably work on some projects with them in the near future if they are interested.

Just to be clear, that’s not why I recommend Moog Audio as the number one destination for DJ equipment in Montreal. If anything, that’s why I want to deal with them because I strongly believe in working with the best and the leaders in their fields because life is much better on top.

Moog Audio could use their quasi-monopoly position (they’re one of the biggest DJ gear retailers in Canada. They have a store in Toronto but have never visited it since I only stop by Play De Record) to take advantage of shoppers of DJ equipment in Montreal but they do not (and when they do, nagging them a little – you know: passive aggressive style!!! – tends to make prices drop by a few units LOL). I respect that and that’s one of the reason I recommend it as the number place to buy DJ gear in Montreal.

Question: I am new to DJing. What is the best DJ laptop to use?

Okay so you want to be a laptop DJ and you’re wondering what brand of laptops you need? Don’t worry, you’re not the only beginner DJ to ask such a question and all truth told even veteran DJs making a switch from CDs (or vinyl!) ask me about the best DJ laptop.

The answer is simple and straightforward but also controversial.

The best DJ laptop is an Apple MacBook Pro.

Apple-MacBook-Pro-DJ-Laptop-Side

No, Apple is not paying to write this. Yes, I have been on Mac every since I have been buying computers. No, I am not one of those Zealots (unless I owned shares in Apple Inc.). Yes, I have experience in PC based DJ laptops. Yes, if I had a child that wanted to get into DJing, I would purchase an Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop for her without even considering the alternatives.

Why should you use an Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop to get into computer based DJing?

There are many reasons and one day I will list them all but the most important one for me is:

An Apple MacBook Pro is unique while PC-based DJ laptops vary.

Apple MacBook Pro

Let me explain with a real life example that happened among the circle of DJs I have regular lunches with.

DJ 1 (an made-up alias) tells us of a problem he has with his Serato. He fires up with Sony Vaio DJ laptop and we all take turns trying to figure out what the problem is (I was among the first to give up because I hardly know my way around PC based laptops) and we all fail.

A few days later, he tells us that there was a patch or driver or updated that he needed to download from Sony to make his Vaio DJ laptop work. At the next lunch, a Dell DJ laptop user laughed at him saying that he did not need to pay for drivers unlike what our Sony friend had to.

A few months later, DJ D (our Dell DJ laptop user) had a problem and he called another DJ friend in a panic because it was before a really important gig and he was on the other side of the city and had forgotten his power cable at home and needed someone to lend him one.

Needless to say that since no one else owned a Dell DJ laptop, he was in a jam and he had to resort to playing music from his back-up CD book.

Where am I getting with this?

With an Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop, you have 1) one piece of hardware that runs 2) one operating system. Finally, a Traktor or Serato is your 3) DJ software of choice. In total, there are only three variants.

Traktor Requirements

(See in the above screenshot example for an example of how the PC world has so many variants for Traktor DJ software users!)

A PC DJ laptop has five for instance such as: 1) brand of the notebook 2) Windows XP or 3) Windows Vista or 4) Windows 7 (operating systems). Then 5) Intel 6) AMD in processors and finally 7) Traktor or Serato.

My record label has about five artists that all use the latest generation of Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptops. Three of us have the 15” while the rest are on the 13”.

Our operating systems are identical Mac OS 10.6 and while we all are on different models of processors, Intel makes them all.

About JaBig's Apple MacBook Pro 15" DJ Laptop (Dec 2010)

In other words, we have the same laptop DJ systems (most of us are on Traktor Scratch Pro) and we can help each other out better because we tend to have the same issues.

For instance, one of the Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop user told me to be careful when turning my Internet connection on when Traktor is on. One day, I forgot and turned it on mid-set and the song froze for 3 seconds almost but I was like because it actually sounded like a cool effect!

Apple MacBook Pro DJ Laptop

Fast forward a year or so later… I overslept a disco nap and in my rush to make my gig, I forgot my stupid power adapter at home. In a panic, I called all my DJ friends for help but it never occurred to me that all DJs were working.

Then while lamenting to a lovely lady who worked the coat-check that evening, she told me that she had her MacBook laptop in her bag because she had come straight to the club from her early evening university classes.

Needless to say, she saved my butt that evening! Yes, sometimes being part of a herd can be a lifesaver! (Although I will admit that I try my best to hide the fact that I am on a Mac because I don’t want to come across as a hipster. Thank God for Speck Macbook laptop covers/cases!)
I will not say here and try to preach to anyone that an Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop is technically better than a Dell, Sony, Toshiba, Acer and what have you. The only truth that it is more expensive but you may want to read this article if you’re new to DJing: First Things First: DJ Stuff Can Be Expensive.

All I am going to say is that if you like life to be simple and easy and free of problems, you’re better off with an Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop. I hope that the above examples (yes, that was a freaking long story) are aspects that will help you see this debate under a new light.

I hear the same story all the time in one version or another: someone who came across a seemingly good deal on second hand DJ equipment, jumped on it and ended up regretting that decision.

Before you part ways with your money on second hand DJ equipment, here one very important consideration that you should keep in mind:

There is ALWAYS a good reason someone is selling second hand DJ equipment, especially for cheap!

Figuring out the real reason is what will you save headaches in the future. And that’s the most important consideration to make before you engage in any sort of negotiations.

If the used DJ gear comes from a nightclub that just went out of business only three months after opening, that’s good.

Why? Because it means that the used DJ gear is probably three months old only and that the club owners just want to make some money from it or the bankruptcy agent will sell them for cheap because he or she does not know the real price of DJ stuff or wants some quick cash quickly.

If the gear comes from a DJ who’s been a pro for 15 years and wants to upgrade his setup, think twice.

Why?

For starters, his second hand DJ equipment set-up is probably obsolete. The only single piece of gear that may still have sort of relevance would be the Technics SL-1200 turntables because they do not age. But you do not want to inherit his Pioneer CDJ-500 DJ CD decks (if you’ve ever played on them or if you actually know what they are, daaaamn, you’re an old school DJ!).

Pioneer CDJ 500 CD Deck

The best source of second hand DJ equipment is from people or institutions that want to get rid of their relatively new or used DJ gear for cheap. That’s why I am always on the lookout for DJs who are about to have children and need space in their homes or money or clubs and other venues that did not last long.

Case in point: in the Spring of one year I DJed at the opening party of a million-dollar bar/lounge. By the end of Summer, the place had gone bankrupt (newbie club owners spend millions on their posh venues but forget about the marketing budgets) and I called the owner asking him a good deal on the second hand DJ equipment.

Someone had beat me to it and instead of the $8000 the whole kit would have cost brand new, this lucky buyer got everything for $2000 on used DJ gear of less than 5 months! Wait for it… that included two shinny Pioneer CDJ-2000 DJ CD decks!

Last case in point (a sad but equally funny tale): a very dear friend of mine thought he had a good deal of a lifetime on second hand DJ equipment when he replied to an ad on Craigslist. He sent the money and to this day, he is still waiting for his supposedly three-day old Pioneer CDJ-1000 MK3 CD decks! (In case you did not get it, my friend got royally conned because he did not ask himself why someone was selling such a good pair of used Pioneer CD decks for so cheap without any valid explanation!)

Pioneer CDJ 900 Craigslist Ad Screenshot

Why is someone selling second hand DJ equipment? Ask yourself this question first before parting ways with your money on used DJ gear!

This is a guide to beginner DJ equipment for those who are blessed to have the ability to afford anything their heart desires.

Obvious the first step in shopping for beginner DJ equipment is getting the decks. This is a no-brainer. You need a pair of Technics SL-1200 turntables. You can make your pick from the MKII up to the most recent models.

Technics SL 1200 turntables

If you plan on spinning CDs, your beginner DJ equipment arsenal will have to include CD turntables too. Here, the choice is also straightforward as you’re better off with the best-of-the-best aka the Pioneer CDJ-2000 DJ CD decks.

Pioneer CDJ 2000

Now, things are getting complicated as with DJ mixers, the choices abound and it will come down to your preferences but since you’re probably new at DJing you cannot know what the best DJ mixer is if you have not spun on one.

So again, your beginner DJ equipment rig should include premium DJ mixers found in many clubs around the world such as the Pioneer DJM-800, the most popular DJ effects mixer or the Allen & Heath Xone:92. If you want to go rotary, the Rane MP 2016S, UREI 1620LE and even the ultra light and portable DJR-400 should be your DJ mixers of choice.

DJR 400 DJ Mixer

With DJing going digital on us at a fast pace, your beginner DJ equipment set-up should also include a laptop. Here again, the best stand in a class of their own and are not hard to spot. Pick an Apple MacBook Pro 15” and make sure that you configure it to have the fastest processor, the most RAM, a widescreen display and the biggest and fastest hard drive. Why a 15”? I find 13” too small and while 17” would be the best, it’s no fun lugging them around from gig to gig.

Apple MacBook Pro
With that Apple MacBook Pro DJ laptop, you’re going to need DJ software. You have two options for your digital beginner DJ equipment set-up: 1) Serato 2)Traktor. Both have their pros and cons and in an article titled Serato or Traktor?, I revealed a simple and fast way to figure out which computer DJ system to pick and why.

Traktor Scratch Pro Screenshot

Serato Scratch Live

Depending on whether you settle with Serato or Traktor, you are going to need a DJ controller as part of your beginner DJ equipment set-up. DJ controllers basically allow you to operate the laptop without you touching the keyboard (except when using the songs search tool). They’re practical because trying to make live loops for example using a keyboard is not the easiest of things to do.

If you thought the options in DJ mixers were dizzying, you obviously have not looked into DJ controllers because even DJ gear retailers get lost in the confusion! That’s why the beginner DJ controller, [Related read: The Number One Annoyance with USB DJ controllers] I will recommend for Serato or Traktor DJ software is the Traktor KONTROL X1 which is make for Traktor but can also be used on Serato (give me a couple of weeks to research into the best that really works for both platforms).

TRAKTOR KONTROL X1 DJ Controller

Your journey into beginner DJ equipment is not over! You need a pair of DJ headphones. Your options? Pioneer HDJ-2000, Sony MDR-700DJ, Sennheiser HD 25 and even the good old Technics RP-DJ1200. Buying DJ headphones is a matter of personal choice and comfort.

I personally use the Sony MDR V700 DJ headphones because they have served me well for over ten years and am happy with them. I see that everyone is moving onto Pioneer HDJ-2000 and they swear by them so maybe one day I will try them out and let you know!

What else do you need in your beginner DJ equipment setup? Studio monitors, a booth, cables, bags, cases and various accessories such as slipmats, dust removers and so forth.

But the above should get you started. Good luck and if you ever use this premium beginner DJ equipment guide, please feel free to share the photos of your set-up!

PS: The total bill for a set-up above is over US $ 10 000. Like I said: if money is no object…

Probably the most annoying thing with all these USB DJ controllers is the fact that DJs need different DJ software specific to each controller.

Since every club on the planet will probably have a different brand and model of MIDI DJ controllers, the DJ is pretty much the one who loses out the most because paying for each DJ software is very expensive and futile exercise.

I first noticed this issue with USB DJ controllers when a student of mine showed at my studio with her Traktor KONTROL S4 DJ controller and wanted me to quickly show her the ropes.

Traktor KONTROL S4

Within two minutes Traktor KONTROL S4 was plugged and ready to play but I could not figure out why my Traktor Scratch Pro DJ software could not recognize the S4 the way it quickly recognizes the Audio A8 DJ soundcard. I turned to the Internets for answer and lo and behold , the problem was written loud and clear on Native Instruments’ website:

“TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 will not support external timecode control directly after its release, neither with the included software nor in combination with TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO/DUO.”

Needless to say that I was not amused but brushed it off assuming that other USB DJ controllers did not have the same restrictions.

And then while researching the Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor DJ software, guess what I read in the official press release:

Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ Controller for Traktor DJ Software

“The DDJ-T1 controller is designed for the next generation of home and casual DJs who leverage digital music files everywhere they go. Combined with a computer and the included TRAKTOR Pioneer DDJ-T1 Edition DJ software, the controller offers DJs of all levels the same operability and functionality of a professional player and mixer setup along with excellent audio quality.”

Now I don’t know if DJ gear and software manufacturers expect DJs to own 10 million pieces of DJ software for each DJ controller/DJ software combo but this is beyond ridiculous it’s a travesty and as DJs we should rebel because it’s as if DJ CD player makers decided that their products only worked with a respective brand of CDs meaning that for each different set-up, DJs would need multiple versions of CD books!

I understand that DJ controllers are mainly for home use and that’s why it’s assumed that DJs would only use one set-up but how about travelling DJs like me who may be invited by other DJs for a quick session at their studios?

This issue with USB DJ controllers running on specific DJ software must be addressed otherwise they will only go down as gimmicks for fake DJs.

Now that my rant is over, time to have chocolate! :)

Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH DJ software is a two-channel USB controller which mimics the same look and feel of a conventional Pioneer mixer + CDJs set-up.
Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ Controller for Serato ITCH

Like all the similar devices on the market, the Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH DJ software has it all: plug and play connectivity, multiple connections and not your average sound card.

There’s a seemingly cool feature on the Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH that may actually turn out to be a nightmare: a space dock has been included in the DJ controller for the laptop’s keyboard to be slipped under to save space and have the laptop’s screen closer to the controller for a better user experience.

The foreseeable problem with the Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH DJ software is that if the DJ needs to type anything such as the name of a track, because some of us – ahem, this author – do not necessarily keep our music collection tidy and organized, he or she is pretty much out of luck. And let’s be honest… how many of us do not check out Facebook feed, update Twitter statuses and even purchase tunes in the middle of a DJ set?

Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ Controller for Serato ITCH

One cool thing about the Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH DJ software which makes it a much better option to the Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor is that it does not require a special version of Serato ITCH software the way the DDJ-T1 requires the Traktor Pioneer DDJ-T1 Edition DJ software to function!

Watch out for complete hands-on reviews of the Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH DJ software when it hits the market and are then able to play with it.

The Pioneer DDJ-S1 DJ controller for Serato ITCH will be available in March 2011 with a suggested retail price of $1599.

Pioneer DDJ-T1 is yet another DJ Controller for Traktor DJ software to hit the market and it’s priced at $1299. This Traktor DJ controller from Pioneer will debut in February 2011.

The Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor instantly appeals to DJs from its look and feel of a normal Pioneer DJ set-up (two CDJs and a mixer). Like many USB DJ controllers on the market it features familiar functions such as USB plug & play, an interface that is mirrored by the Traktor DJ software and of course, a built-in sound card.

Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor DJ software

The obvious gripe with the Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor is that it’s only compatible with the Traktor Pioneer DDJ-T1 Edition DJ software, which I am guessing is an extra install and expense for DJs already on Traktor Scratch Pro or Duo.

Also add the fact that at a retail price of US $1299, the Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor DJ software is more expensive than Traktor’s own KONTROL S4 DJ controller, which sells for US $1000.

The most exciting feature the Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor DJ software is the real-life jog wheels, which have the same size as conventional CDJ-400. If you have tried out other DJ controllers and come from a CD DJing or vinyl background, you know how awkward the small size of their jog wheel can feel.

Watch out for a full review of the Pioneer DDJ-T1 DJ controller for Traktor DJ software once Gifts for DJs gets to toy around with it.
